Resilient Food Systems in a Changing Climate: From Local Adaptation to Systemic Transformation

10:30 – 11:30(Istanbul, GMT+3)

Climate change is increasingly threatening food security, livelihoods and human security, particularly in vulnerable agricultural communities. At the same time, transforming food systems offers an opportunity to strengthen resilience while contributing to broader climate and environmental goals.

This session will explore how locally led and proven adaptation approaches can strengthen resilient food systems and how policy and finance can enable their implementation at scale. It will connect local experience with NAPs, NDCs and the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), examining how emerging GGA indicators can help translate global adaptation ambition into measurable improvements for vulnerable communities.

Bringing together policy and practice, the discussion will identify how climate finance can better reach locally led solutions and how resilient food systems can create synergies across the three Rio Conventions, contributing simultaneously to climate adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity conservation, sustainable land management and a just transition.

• Which locally led adaptation approaches successfully strengthen food systems and vulnerable communities, and how can NAPs, NDCs and the GGA indicators help create the conditions to scale them?

• How can climate finance better support locally led adaptation and resilient food systems while unlocking co-benefits for mitigation, biodiversity, land restoration and a just transition?
