Biography

Since 1997 Dirk Weinreich worked with the Federal Ministry for the Environment as Senior Official for Interdisciplinary Environmental Legislation, Immission Control Legislation and Climate Protection. Dirk Weinreich took part in building up Emissions Trading in the EU and in Germany. Since 2007 he was Head of Division on Climate Change and Energy Law and Emissions Trading, since 2022 he is Head of Working Group for Climate Change Act and Emissions Trading in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. In this position he is responsible for the implementation of Climate Protection Law in Germany. He is also responsible for all political, legal, economic and technical issues of Emissions Trading in Germany including supervision of the German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) and international affairs.He is chair of the “Working Group on Emissions Trading”, a permanent forum with all stakeholders of EU-ETS in Germany including Industry, States, NGOs and Parliament, and Co-Chair of ICAP - the International Carbon Action Partnership is an international forum for governments and public authorities that have implemented or are planning to implement emissions trading systems.After studies of law and political science Dirk Weinreich holds a Ph.D. in law from the University of Marburg (Germany).
