Jörn Birkmann

Jörn research focusses particularly on issues of sustainable development, risk and vulnerability, urban planning and climate change adaptation. In the ERC-funded synergy project “urbisphere” he for example examines dynamics between the climate and cities. He also coordinates a larger BMBF-research project regarding adaptation and resilience building after the extreme floods in Germany in 2021. He was Coordinating Lead Author of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report AR6 and is member of the Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association.
