Through the ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court in 2021 the German legislature is obliged to set a national path for limiting global warming to well below 2 °C, preferably 1,5°C, if possible. Thus, the law, provides necessary framework conditions, Germany will still miss its climate targets. The panel discusses legal means as a game changer to push foward more ambitious climate action on policy level, using the examples of legsilative approaches as well as climate litigation.
