Don‘t spOIL our future! - Fossil extractivism in countries of the Global South for Germany’s energy supply

One year after Germany signed the Glasgow Declaration on International Public Support for the Clean Energy Transition and against the backdrop of the Russian war in Ukraine, Germany and other European countries are expanding fossil fuel extraction in countries of the Global South to replace Russian gas. At the same time, Germany supports the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) initiative. In view of this ambivalent behaviour, Germany's credibility with regard to the phase-out of fossil fuels is being questioned. The side event will focus on the different perspectives of young experts from the Global South and Germany, who will discuss the exploitation of these fossil fuels and its effects with a representative of the German government.
