Fast-tracking the energy transition by tripling the deployment of renewable power generation and doubling energy efficiency — this is the ambitious yet achievable goal, proclaimed by the COP28 Presidency, IRENA and GRA as a pathway to significantly reduce greenhouse emissions and still reach 1.5 degrees by 2030. This not only calls for a massive upscale in renewable deployment, but also the further development of already existing renewable energy technologies and an increase of the renewable energy talent pool.
It is in our hands: How do we upscale and further improve the existing renewable energy technologies? What is needed on an institutional and financial level to reach the goal of tripling renewables? What are the implications regarding trained personnel and energy sector workforce? How can we combine RE technologies? Looking at these questions we are being confronted with at this pivotal moment for the energy transition, it becomes clear that we need a holistic approach: Both in terms of technologies and in terms of representation and decision making. This event seeks to highlight the existing technologies, which are a core ingredient in the quest for 1.5° degrees, and the needs of the different sectors in terms of workforce and institutional support.
