Biography

Dr. Andreas Becker has studied Meteorology in Bonn and accomplished the canonical degrees in 1990 and 1994, with contributions in numerical modelling on cold front dynamics. After multi-annual terms as assistant professor at the Chair for Environmental Meteorology of the Cottbus based Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU, 1995-2000) and as Atmospheric Sciences Officer with the Vienna based Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban-Treaty Organization (2001-2010) with a half-year stay with the Research Centre Jülich in the 1st half of 2001 he took in Summer 2010 the charges of the Head of the Precipitation Monitoring Unit with Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) including the Head of the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC). Since August 2021 he serves as Chief of the Climate Monitoring Department again with DWD. In doing so his over 30yrs lasting activities have touched subject areas in mesoscale meteorology, air quality, inversion modelling, emergency response, nuclear safety, weather, climate and their extremes and climate monitoring across all parameters.
