Biography

Oliver Wieck is Secretary General of ICC Germany, an organization that focuses on strengthening commercial ties among nations, promotes free trade and provides a forum for businesses and other organizations to examine and better comprehend the nature and significance of the major shifts taking place in the world economy. Among his many responsibilities, Oliver Wieck ensures that German business interests are adequately represented at HQ level (Paris) with an emphasis on the issues of trade and investment, trade finance and commercial arbitration.

From 2008-2013 he was Head of the Foreign Economic Policy Department at the Federation of German Industries (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie, BDI). During this period he focused on a number of topics including export finance, credit guarantees, export controls and customs, provided valuable input on Free Trade Agreements such as TTIP and CETA and closely monitored the WTO Doha Round negotiations.

Previously, Oliver Wieck was Executive Director of the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations (Ost-Ausschuss der Deutschen Wirtschaft) for eight years, supporting businesses in their efforts to establish themselves in transformation countries located in Eastern Europe, South-East Europe and Central Asia. From 1991 to 1999 he held various positions within the BDI International Markets Department. Oliver Wieck, a qualified lawyer, studied law at the University of Bonn and the University of Düsseldorf.
