Biography

Thomas is a humanitarian with more than five years experience, currently working on anticipatory 

humanitarian action at the German Red Cross. Throughout his work in the humanitarian sector, he has 

followed innovative approaches that aim to support humanitarian operations. Specifically, Thomas has 

focused on the file of humanitarian action in urban contexts before coming back to the field of 

antiicipatory humanitarian action. Thomas is currently focused on the MENA region and the Red Cross 

Red Crescent National Societies developing their anticipatory portfolio there. Throughout his work on 

Disaster Risk Management, Thomas he developed a detailed focus on the heat hazard, for which he 

has worked on project support and learning, knowledge, and guidance products. 


Before joining the Red Cross, he has gained experience working with the Commission of the European 

Union (DG ECHO) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ). Thomas holds a master’s degree in 

international Humanitarian Action (NOHA) from the Ruhr-University Bochum and the Rijksuniversiteit 

Groningen.
