Biography

Prof. Pörtner is Head of the Department of Integrative Ecophysiology at AWI. He was the Co-chair of Working Group II for the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report AR6 and the Special Reports on Global Warming of 1.5 SR1.5, Climate Change and Land SRCCL and the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate SROOC. Research interests include the effects of climate warming, ocean acidification, and hypoxia on marine animals and ecosystems with a focus on the links between ecological, physiological, biochemical and molecular mechanisms limiting tolerance and shaping biogeography and ecosystem functioning. He is also a member of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU).
