Biography

Prof. Matthias Garschagen is Deputy Director of the Department of Geography and Chair of Anthropogeography with a focus on human-environment relations. He was Lead Author in Chapter 16: Key risks across sectors and regions of the Working Group II contribution to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, Lead Author of Chapter 1: Framing and context of the report of the Special Report on Ocean and Cryosphere SROCC as well as author in the core writing team of the AR6 Synthesis Report. His research focus includes risks, vulnerability, adaptation, loss and damage, and transformation in relation to environmental risks and climate impacts, particularly in cities in Southeast and South Asia, West Africa and Europe/Germany.
